Realms of Fantasy is pleased to make available this sample issue, February 2010, as a downloadable PDF, free to our web site visitors. Why you ask? Is Realms moving towards an ad-supported on-line model where all content will be free?

No, we’re not. Here’s what we’re up to.

We want to show people the quality of our content—all our content, art, fiction, columns, layout—so they will subscribe to the magazine on paper, now.

Most big-name magazines can’t survive in the ‘web-only’ mode. So while Realms of Fantasy will be continuing as a print publication, we understand and appreciate the need to deliver our product in other formats. We know the e-book reader (Amazon Kindle, Sony, etc.) the smart phone (iphone, android, etc.), and netbooks, are changing the way people read. The Free PDF is our way of saying that Realms of Fantasy is part of that change—and that ROF will be available on smart phones and e-book readers before you know it.

We love paper, its feel, its clarity, its visual density; but we also love the convenience these devices deliver. Short stories are great things for those ‘lost’ moments, waiting at the post office (oh, sometimes paper can be annoying!) or Department of Motor Vehicles.

Some day soon, you’ll have a Realms of Fantasy in your pocket. Boredom no more! And that’s a good thing.

So enjoy your PDF, and stay tuned to this site for announcements of new digital delivery  methods!
