The December 2009 issue of Realms of Fantasy has been reviewed by Rich Horton in the January 2010 issue of Locus. Here is the review in its entirety:
My main reaction to the December Realms of Fantasy is admiration of consistency: the stories are each quite nice and really rather moralistic, but not in a hectoring fashion, rather in a quiet good sense sort of way. Perhaps the best of five good stories is “Narrative of a Beast’s Life” by Cat Rambo, told by a centaur who is captured and sold into slavery along with various other fantastical beasts — because beasts, for all their evident intelligence, are inevitably considered subhuman by humans. Yes, the moral is pretty obvious, but the story still brings it out effectively.
