April 2011 Issue: TOC

by Editor Douglas Cohen on March 28, 2011

As all that’s left to is to ship this issue, I figure we’re close enough to share the TOC for our dark fantasy issue:

“The Strange Case of Madeleine H. Marsh (Aged 14 1/4)” by Von Carr, Illustration by Peter Ferguson

“Little Vampires” by Lisa Goldstein, Illustration by Billy Norrby

“By Shackle and Lash” by Euan Harvey, Illustration by Cyril Van Der Haegen

“A Witch’s Heart” by Randy Henderson, Illustration by Thomas Canty

“The Sacrifice” by Michelle M. Welch, Illustration by Carol Heyer

In the Artists Gallery, Karen Haber covers the work of Brom (and the cover is by Brom as well).

In the Movie/TV column, Resa Nelson covers AMC’s The Walking Dead, and “The Most Disturbing Zombie Movie You’ve Never Seen.”

In the Folkroots column, Theodora Goss discusses vampires in folklore and literature.

In the Special Feature column, Douglas Cohen covers The Addams Family on Broadway.

The usual reviews by Paul Witcover, Elizabeth Bear, Michael M. Jones, Andrew Wheeler for book and graphic novels, and Matt London covers games on our website.

With this issue and the publishing of “The Sacrifice,” we’ll have published the last of the fiction inventory (and for that matter, any inventory) that we inherited from Tir Na Nog Press. And I should add that if there was ever a story that deserved to be published in Realms of Fantasy, it’s “The Sacrifice” by Michelle M. Welch. Michelle submitted this story to us back when Sovereign Media was still the magazine’s publisher. Shawna intended to buy this and even said as much in informal fashion to the author’s agent, but before she could officially accept it for the magazine, Sovereign cancelled the mag. Then she did officially accept it when we came back with Tir Na Nog Press, but before we could publish the piece, the magazine folded a second time. But now this story is finally seeing publication with us. I can only imagine what this has been like for the author, but she has our thanks for her patience (never heard a word of complaint) and for sticking with us all this time.

Anyway, while we still have some stories that were submitted to us during the days of Tir Na Nog Press, all materials that were accepted by us during this time have now found their way into the magazine. So it brings us that much closer to caught up/business as usual.
